As we approach the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday, I find it’s a lovely time to reflect on the year and all the things we have to be thankful for. For over 25 years, we’ve been honored to serve the Dallas-Metroplex area, and our hearts are full of thankfulness for our dedicated team, loyal clients, and the amazing pets we care for. Today, I’ll start by expressing gratitude, then I’ll share a few pet-friendly Thanksgiving tips that I hope will make your holiday season the best ever – for the whole family!
Our Extraordinary Team
First, I’d like to acknowledge our incredible Pet Care Providers. They work so hard to stay current with the latest trends in pet care, whether it’s learning to administer new medications or understanding the newest stylish harnesses. Navigating the busy streets of Dallas to ensure timely visits, they do it all with a smile and the utmost care for every pet we serve.
With an average tenure of 5+ years, our team represents the best in pet care. Our pet sitters and dog walkers bring passion, professionalism, and genuine love to every home they visit. Their commitment to providing personal, loving attention to each pet sets Park Cities Pet Sitter apart.
In addition, I want to express my gratitude to our amazing Support Team. The people behind the scenes make sure everything runs smoothly – they’re the ones coordinating all the details, confirming visits, and making sure the right sitter is in the right place at the right time. While they don’t always get to see the wagging tails or hear the purring, they bring so much positivity to the team, and we couldn’t do it without them.
Our Wonderful Clients
Next, I want to extend a huge thank you to our loyal and wonderful clients. Your continued support of our small, family-owned business means everything to us, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to care for your beloved pets. It’s truly a joy to see your pets healthy, happy, and content in their own homes, and there’s no job we’d rather have. Thank you for trusting us and for letting us be a part of your pets’ lives.
Your patronage allows us to continue our mission of transforming pet care through hospitality, support, and education. We are humbled by the relationships we’ve built and the confidence you place in our team to care for your homes and pets.
The Pets We Care For
Of course, our greatest joy comes from the pets themselves. From shy and mellow to outgoing and energetic, each animal we care for brings unique happiness to our lives. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide comfort, care, and companionship to these wonderful creatures. As much as we nurture them, they teach us. I believe that professionally with animals opens a special place in our hearts, one that inspires collaboration and understanding beyond words and spoken language.
No matter the pet’s age, needs, temperament, or size, we cherish our time with the pets. It is an honor to watch them grow up and care for them into their final days.
Pet-Friendly Thanksgiving Tips
As you prepare for your holiday gathering, I’d like to share some important tips to keep your pets safe and comfortable as you celebrate Thanksgiving and the upcoming winter holidays:
Create a Quiet Space
Set up a calm area where pets can retreat from the excitement of holiday gatherings. Consider playing relaxing music and bringing in their favorite beds and bedding. Be sure you include a litter box, toys, fresh water, and any food they may need during the festivities.
Watch the Food
Keep holiday foods out of reach. Many traditional dishes can be harmful to pets, including:
- Turkey skin and bones
- Onions and garlic
- Chocolate and desserts
- Alcohol and coffee
- Xylitol products like sugar-free gum and sweets
- Macadamia nuts
- Nutmeg
Manage Visitor Interactions
Not all pets enjoy large gatherings. Have a plan to:
- Introduce guests slowly
- Place pets in a safe space if they have a bite history or reactivity around strangers
- Supervise all interactions with children and teens
- Remind guests to keep all exterior doors closed to prevent lost pets
- Ask guests to refrain from sharing food from their plates so that you can be fully in control of your pet’s snacks and treats,
Read last week’s blog to learn more about the foods that could make your pets very sick and those that are great to share here.
Maintain Routine
Try to keep your pet’s regular feeding and exercise schedule as normal as possible. Take your dog out for a walk before guests arrive. Engage your cats in play for at least 15 minutes early in the day. Then, your pets can rest while the festivities take place.
As we reflect on the past year, we are reminded of why we do what we do. Our mission goes beyond pet sitting – we’re about creating positive relationships with pets, their owners, and our community.
