The Puppy Bowl is an annual television event that showcases rescue puppies playing on a miniature football field. This year’s Puppy Bowl XXI will feature 142 rescue puppies from 80 shelters across 40 states and two countries. The puppies are divided into two teams – Team Ruff (wearing orange bandanas) and Team Fluff (wearing blue bandanas) – competing for the coveted “Lombarky” trophy. You can meet the players here!

When Does the Puppy Bowl Air?

Mark your calendars, Dallas pet lovers! Puppy Bowl XXI will air on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET/1:00 PM CT. The three-hour event will be simulcast across multiple channels, including Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, truTV, Max, and Discovery+.

The Puppy Bowl has become a pop culture phenomenon for several reasons:

  • Adorable entertainment: Who can resist watching playful puppies tumble and chase toys?
  • Adoption awareness: The event highlights the importance of pet adoption and showcases rescue animals
  • Inclusive representation: This year’s lineup includes eleven special needs dogs, promoting diversity and inclusion
  • Feline fun: Don’t forget about the Kitty Half-Time Show, which gives cat lovers something to purr about

For Dallas pet owners, the Puppy Bowl offers a heartwarming alternative or complement to the Super Bowl festivities. It’s a great way to spend time with your pets while supporting a good cause. Football is obviously a big sport in Dallas (I know it is at my house) so starting early with the Puppy Bowl is a great way to prep for the evening’s events.
