Thank Your Pet Sitter Day™

Today, March 5th, 2025, is Thank Your Pet Sitter Day™. This relatively new observance, created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) in 2023, falls on the Wednesday of Professional Pet Sitters Week™, which is celebrated during the first full week of March every year. You can learn more about Professional Pet Sitters Week in last week’s blog, but today I want to hone in on Thank Your Pet Sitter Day™ because I am often asked how pet parents can honor their dedicated pet sitters throughout the year. I have plenty of ideas to share!

Pet Sitter International logoWhat Is Thank Your Pet Sitter Day™?

Thank Your Pet Sitter Day™ was created by the team at PSI to give pet parents the opportunity to express their gratitude to the professionals who care for their beloved animals. Similarly to days that celebrate Administrative Assistants, Teachers, and Engineers, this career day celebrates the dedicated individuals that go above and beyond, ensuring pets receive the best possible care when their families are at work or traveling.

Ways to Thank Your Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers

If you’re wondering how to show appreciation for your pet sitter or dog walker, following are some creative ways to say thank you:

 Leave Glowing Online Reviews

In today’s digital age, positive online reviews can significantly impact a pet sitting business – including the individual pet sitter or dog walker. Taking a few minutes to write a detailed, heartfelt review on review platforms like Google or Facebook can build your pet sitter’s schedule and grow their client base, positively impacting their livelihood.

At Park Cities Pet Sitter, we reward our employees internally for the positive reviews and shout-outs they receive. We also use client reviews to motivate and educate our staff members – noting what made your experience worth raving about. You can find the links to our online reviews here. We encourage you to shout out your favorite PCPSI pet sitter in honor of Thank Your Pet Sitter Day™!

Engage With Their Posts on PCPSI’s Social Media

We often share your pets and favorite staff members on our social media platforms. By showing them love by liking, commenting, and sharing the posts in which your pet care providers are featured, you’re spreading the word about their expert, loving care.

Follow our social media accounts and interact with our posts on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Word-of-mouth recommendations are invaluable. Spread the word about your outstanding pet sitter or dog walker to friends, family, and colleagues. Consider posting a recommendation on community apps like NextDoor. These recommendations help us grow our business and, they help your friends and family connect with the best pet sitters in the Dallas Metroplex.

Self-Care Gifts

Pet sitting and dog walking can be physically and emotionally demanding. Consider gifting your sitter items that promote relaxation and self-care, such as a spa gift set, a cozy blanket, or a personalized coffee tumbler. Often, pet sitters and dog walkers go through outerwear and shoes quite quickly due to the distances we cover and elements, therefore a gift card to REI, Cabelas, etc. are vey thoughtful and always welcome.

Cash & Gift Cards

Many of our clients ask us if it’s customary to tip pet sitters and dog walkers. While our employees don’t work primarily off tips and gratuity, they always appreciate them. If you’re more comfortable with a gift card over cash, consider cards for local restaurants, coffee shops, or pet supply stores. Gas cards are also practical for sitters because they drive frequently.

Show your appreciation with a gift that reflects your sitter’s love for animals. This could include pet-themed t-shirts, accessories, artwork, or a thoughtful “Thank You” box with yummy treats and snacks inside. Etsy has a bunch of fun ideas for pet-themed gifts for the pet lovers in your life.

You can also help stock your sitter’s supplies with high-quality pet care items like training treats, puzzle toys, or first-aid kits. We love to see our clients supporting local pet supply shops like those listed in this blog. Most of our employees have pets of their own and love receiving a thoughtful token of affection for their furry family members.

A Heartfelt Note

While gifts are wonderful, a heartfelt note expressing your gratitude can be the most meaningful gift of all. Many pet sitters cherish handwritten cards from their clients, as they serve as lasting reminders of the positive impact they’ve made. Tell them how having them on your pet care team has improved your and your pet’s quality of life. Tell me about the things they do that give you peace of mind. We often assume our pet sitters know how grateful we are for them but it never hurts to remind them just in case!
