Leaving your pets in someone else’s care is a big decision, especially if you’re heading out of town or far away. At Park Cities Pet Sitter, Inc. (PCPSI), we understand that trust is earned through communication, consistency, and professionalism. That’s why we’ve developed a thoughtful onboarding process that helps both pets and pet parents feel comfortable from the very beginning. If you’re preparing for your first pet care visit with us in the Dallas Metroplex, here’s what to expect during your pet’s first pet sitting visit with PCPSI. If you’ve signed up for dog walking, read our last blog instead.
We Begin With An In-Home Consultation
As a new PCPSI client, your experience starts with a consultation with a professional pet sitter in your area. This meeting allows us to get to know you, your pets, and your home before services begin. When we refer to pets, we mean cats, dogs, small mammals like guinea pigs and rabbits, birds, and aquarium animals. I’ll say “pets” to keep it simple, but know that, at PCPSI, our employees are trained to care for a wide variety of species.
During the consultation, your sitter will review the information you entered into our online scheduling system and walk through all the important details together. We take our time during this visit because we want to fully understand not only how to care for your pets, but also how to care for your home while you’re away.
Every household is different, and no detail is too small when it comes to personalized pet and home care.
We Learn Your Pet’s Routines
Pets thrive on consistency, especially when their families are traveling or away for long periods. During the consultation, we’ll discuss feeding routines, medications, potty breaks, litter box care, outdoor play, exercise preferences, walk routes, sleeping habits, and any quirks or behaviors that help us better understand your pet(s).
We also use this time to physically see where everything is kept. Food, leashes, cleaning supplies, medications, carriers, litter, trash bins, and emergency contacts are all reviewed while you’re there to answer questions directly.
This attention to detail helps ensure smoother visits later and minimizes stress for both pets and owners. There’s a method to our meticulousness!
We Maintain Consistency As Much As Possible
One of the things that sets PCPSI apart is our commitment to consistency. In most cases, you’ll have the same sitter caring for your pets on an ongoing basis unless you move to another area of town.
Pets often feel more secure when they recognize the person walking through the door. Familiarity builds trust, especially for shy cats, anxious dogs, or senior and special needs pets who depend on routine. It also allows your sitter to become deeply familiar with your pet’s personality, preferences, and normal behaviors over time.
That relationship matters, and we prioritize it.
We Always Have Qualified Back-ups
Of course, there may be times when your regular sitter is unavailable. In those cases, another member of our team steps in. At PCPSI, we have more than 30 qualified professional pet sitters across the Dallas Metroplex, all trained to provide consistent, high-quality care. Because our employee training is as rigorous and as detailed as it is, the service you receive is always the same, even if the person providing it might be new to your family.
Whenever possible, and with enough notice, we can arrange a meeting with your backup sitter before services begin. This added step helps maintain continuity and comfort for both pets and pet parents. Of course, this is not something we can guarantee if the change in staffing is due to an unforeseen circumstance or emergency.
We Care for Your Pets and Home While You’re Away
When your first scheduled pet sitting visit arrives, your sitter follows the care plan established during the consultation, using the instructions you have provided in your client and pet profiles. No matter your pet’s needs: feeding, walks, medications, litter scooping, playtime, or simple companionship, visits are tailored to your pet family’s needs.
Beyond pet care, we also keep an eye on your home by bringing in mail or packages, alternating lights and blinds if requested, and making sure everything remains secure and well cared for while you’re away.
After the visit, you’ll receive visit updates and photos, so you know how your pets are doing and can enjoy peace of mind during your time away.
We Handle Emergencies
While pet and home emergencies are rare, they happen. If we notice your pet is unwell, we’ll discuss it internally, review your pet care instructions and medicine side effects, and call your vet if we need further guidance. If their condition worsens or they need veterinary attention, we will contact you and keep you informed of your pet’s condition every step of the way. We will transport your pet to the vet or emergency veterinary clinic of your choice, remain with them during assessments, and return the pet to you once released. Your pet will have support, love, and attention throughout the whole process.
In the same way, if we notice something is off in your home, there’s a leak, an odd noise, a smoke detector battery beeping, etc., we will manage it on your behalf. We may need your assistance while doing so, which is why we keep lines of communication open and why we count on your emergency contacts to support us if you cannot be reached. If the home issue requires our presence, we can coordinate that with your handyman or management office. We will work with you to ensure it gets addressed, preventing any unnecessary damage, especially if there is any chance the situation may be stressing your pets.
