Starting dog walking services for the first time can come with a mix of excitement and questions, for both you and your dog. At Park Cities Pet Sitter, Inc. (PCPSI), we’ve been providing trusted, professional pet care in the Dallas Metroplex since 1992, and we’ve built our process around one goal: creating a smooth, comfortable experience from day one. Here’s what to expect during your dog’s first walk with PCPSI.
A Personalized Consultation Before Services Begin
Before your dog enjoys their first walk with our team, we schedule an in-home consultation with one of our dog walkers, usually one located in your area. This is one of the most important steps in the process. During this in-home consultation, your dog walker will meet you and your dog(s), review the details you’ve entered in our online scheduling software, and get familiar with your home and where items are kept.
At that time, we aim to go over everything that matters, including dogs’ routines, walking preferences, walking habits, equipment, feeding instructions (if applicable), home access details, and any other specifics. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and share anything that helps us provide the best possible care.
Just as importantly, this consultation allows your dog to meet their dog walker in a calm, low-pressure setting. Building that initial familiarity helps set the tone for a positive experience moving forward.
Consistency You & Your Dog Can Count On
Dogs thrive on routine and familiarity, which is why we prioritize consistency. In most cases, your dog will have the same dog walker for their walks. This allows your dog to build trust and comfort with a familiar face, making each visit feel predictable and secure.
Of course, life happens, and if your regular dog walker is unavailable, we have a team of over 30 qualified, professional pet care providers ready to step in. When possible, and with enough notice, we’re happy to arrange a meeting with your backup sitter so your dog can get to know them ahead of time.
This level of consistency is one of the things that sets PCPSI apart.
During Their First Walk
On the day of your dog’s first walk, your dog walker will arrive during the scheduled time window and follow the routine we established together. This typically includes getting your dog safely leashed, heading out for a walk suited to their energy level and needs, and allowing time for sniffing, movement, and mental stimulation.
We don’t rush walks. We pay attention to your dog’s pace, comfort level, and behavior throughout. For some dogs, that means an upbeat pace. For others, it may be a slower, more exploratory walk.
After the walk, your dog walker will ensure your dog has fresh water, is settled comfortably back in the home, and that everything is left just as it should be. During rainy days, we’ll wipe your dog’s belly and paws and ensure we care for your home as well as we do your pets.
Communication & Peace of Mind
After each visit, you’ll receive an update so you know exactly how your dog is doing. These updates provide insight into your dog’s behavior, activity level, and overall wellbeing, giving you peace of mind while you’re away or busy.
If anything seems out of the ordinary, we communicate promptly by phone or email. Our goal is to keep you informed and confident in our care, which includes your pet, home, and neighborhood.
What to Expect During Your Dog’s First Walk with PCPSI
From the initial consultation to the first walk and beyond, every step of our process is designed to prioritize your dog’s comfort, safety, and happiness. We understand that inviting someone into your home and trusting them with your pet is a big decision.
At PCPSI, we take that responsibility seriously. Your dog’s first walk isn’t just a service; it’s the beginning of a trusted relationship built on consistency, communication, and care!
