North Texas Giving Day is an annual fundraising event that encourages residents of North Texas to support local nonprofits. The online event was launched in 2009 by the Communities Foundation of Texas. It has since become the largest community-wide giving event in the nation. Since its inception, North Texas Giving Day has raised over $566 million for local nonprofits. The event not only fosters a culture of philanthropy but also provides matching funds to amplify the impact of individual donations. The event marked its 15th anniversary in 2023 and continues to evolve. With early giving options leading up to the main event, which, this year, falls on September 19th, the event’s impact is significant. Today, we’re discussing how you can donate to our favorite animal rescues on North Dallas Giving Day 2024.
North Dallas Giving Day 2024
At the time of this publication, over 8 million dollars have been raised as part of North Dallas Giving Day 2024. But, that’s just the beginning; there are still 8 days to donate. Park Cities Pet Sitter’s Favorite Rescues
With more than 3,000 nonprofits included in North Dallas Giving Day this year, we want to take the opportunity to feature some of our favorite Dallas-based rescue organizations. Having worked with and supported these organizations over many years, we are thrilled to spread the word about the difference they make in the lives of homeless animals in our region.
The Street Dog Project
The Street Dog Project is a non-profit organization operating under the legal name Dauntless Rescue Inc. Founded in 2016, it focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating stray dogs from the streets of Dallas, Texas. The organization is run by dedicated volunteers including fosters that are passionate about saving street dogs and reducing the homeless pet population through rescue, education, and community outreach.
The Street Dog Project is seeking donations because they rescue pets with extensive medical needs and, especially with veterinary costs rising, they need all the help they can get. Donate to The Street Dog Project here. They have raised almost $2,500 at the time of this publication.
Humane Society of Dallas County/Dog & Kitty City
The Humane Society of Dallas County (HSDC) aka Dog and Kitty City is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It relies 100% on the generosity of individuals and businesses; HSDC does not receive general operating funds from the City of Dallas, the State of Texas, the federal government, or any other humane organizations. They have operated with a no-kill philosophy for over 40 years. For this reason, any animal that comes into their care has a home for as long as they need it.
Because sustaining a no-kill policy comes with significant challenges, HSDC needs donations to provide medical care, food, shelter and care to the pets they save. Donate to the Humane Society of Dallas County/Dog & Kitty City here. They have a $10,000 match fund that is almost fully met.
Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance
Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It was founded in 1998 to reduce feline overpopulation in the community. The organization operates through two main programs. Their Rescue and Re-Home Adoption Program focuses on finding loving homes for tame, domestic cats and has successfully placed over 7,000 cats in new homes. Their Race to Reduce Litters Program promotes TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) for feral and community cats. It has facilitated the TNR of over 15,000 feral cats and educated colony caregivers on proper management techniques.
This volunteer-based organization is seeking volunteers and funds to continue their extraordinary work. Donate to Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance here.
Operation Kindness
Operation Kindness is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization. They “operate a lifesaving animal shelter and programs to assist pets and the people who love them.” Their extensive programs include pet adoptions, lifesaving medical care for shelter pets, 24-hour care for neonatal kittens, affordable veterinary services for community pets, a pet food pantry, forensics for animal cruelty, interstate transport, lifesaving shelter partnerships, disaster response support, foster care for vulnerable animals and volunteer opportunities.
Operation Kindness has a $100,000 match fund, which is currently over halfway met. Donate here.
Dallas Pets Alive
Dallas Pets Alive (DPA) is a volunteer-run, foster-based rescue organization founded in 2012. They save at-risk pets in North Texas. Since its founding, DPA has served over 31,000 pets and their humans. They focus on animals with severe medical issues that shelters often cannot support. DPA operates through two main initiatives: a Foster & Adoption Program and Innovative Preventative Programs. The Foster & Adoption Program provides a lifeline for pets in need of care before adoption. Their Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) program has prevented 3,168 animal surrenders since 2016 by assisting pet owners facing hardships. Furthermore, DPA runs unique programs like Dogs Matter, which provides temporary foster care for pets of individuals seeking substance abuse treatment. And, they run a program known as Bark Dorm in partnership with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
Dallas Pets Alive has an active match fund of up to $40,000. They are almost halfway there. Donate here.

Duck Team 6
Duck Team 6 is an all-volunteer organization. They are dedicated to improving the lives of stray, abused, neglected, and homeless dogs in North Texas. Their work focuses on three main areas: capture, placement, and outreach. The capture team rescues elusive dogs from the streets, often responding to Good Samaritans or finding dogs in dangerous situations. Their placement efforts involve working with area rescue groups to find forever homes for rescued dogs, with many currently in need of adoption or fostering.
Duck Team 6’s Community Outreach program assists Dallas residents struggling to care for their pets by providing veterinary care, sterilization, and sometimes emergency surgery. In addition, they offer practical support like dog houses and fencing to keep pets off chains. For North Texas Giving Day, Duck Team 6 set an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 to continue their vital work. Support them here.
