National Walk Your Dog Week
Today marks the start of National Walk Your Dog Week, observed annually between October 1st through 7th. This event, founded by pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige, aims to raise awareness about canine obesity. It also highlights the importance of regular walks for dogs’ physical and mental well-being. It’s the perfect time for Dallas dog parents, from Bluffview to Deep Ellum, to reflect on their dogs’ exercise needs. It’s also a great opportunity to remind Dallas pet parents that Park Cities Pet Sitter offers a fantastic solution. Our dog walking services are ideal for busy pet parents and their beloved dogs!
Why Regular Dog Walks Matter
Regular walks are crucial for your dog’s health and happiness, whether you’re strolling through Knox Henderson or exploring the trails of Lakewood. Dog walks provide:
- Physical Exercise: Helps maintain a healthy weight and reduces the risk of obesity-related illnesses.
- Mental Stimulation: Exposure to new sights, sounds, and smells keeps your dog’s mind active and engaged.
- Socialization: Encounters with the real world improve your dog’s social skills, confidence, and ability to adjust to unfamiliar things in their environment.
- Behavioral Improvements: Regular exercise can reduce destructive behaviors caused by boredom or excess energy.

Getting Started with a Dog Walking Routine
This National Walk Your Dog Week, consider establishing a regular walking schedule with Park Cities Pet Sitter. Here’s how to get started:
1. Assess Your Dog’s Needs: Consider your dog’s age, breed, and energy level.
2. Choose a Schedule: Decide how often and around what times you’d like your dog walked. We are happy to discuss your scheduling needs and our availability before getting started.
3. Meet Your Walker: As a new client of Park Cities Pet Sitter, we schedule a consultation with a dog walker in your area. They meet you and your pet(s), go over the home/pet details you entered in our online scheduling software, become familiar with your home, and discuss all pertinent information about your pet(s) and home needs. We know that you and your pet(s) like the same familiar face, so you will (in most cases) have the same care provider unless you move to another area of town. If your dog walker is not available, another one of our 30 qualified professional pet sitters will step in. If you give us enough notice, we offer you a meeting with your back-up sitter. We strive for consistency, which is another element that sets us apart from other pet care providers.
4. Enjoy updates and photos from our team: You and your care provider remain in touch about the care of your pet(s) and home.
